Gradiant Wins Turnkey Water Contract for Hyperscaler AI Data Center Campus in Water-Scarce West Texas
Gradiant, the Boston-based water infrastructure company, has secured a contract to deliver a full water and wastewater system for a major hyperscaler's data center campus in West Texas, the company announced on September 2, 2026.
The deal positions Gradiant as the single accountable partner responsible for both potable water supply and wastewater treatment at a site where limited regional water availability has made infrastructure planning among the most demanding the company has undertaken.
A Contract Shaped by Scarcity
West Texas has emerged as a flashpoint in the broader tension between surging AI compute demand and finite water supply.
As hyperscalers race to build out data center capacity, the region's constrained water resources have presented a significant barrier to development.
Gradiant's new contract covers the site's entire water and wastewater infrastructure, engineered to achieve zero discharge to surface water, a design requirement that reflects the sensitivity of the local environment and the limits of available supply.
The contract is described by the company as part of a broader, publicly reported multi-billion-dollar investment reshaping the West Texas region.
Gradiant has not disclosed the name of the hyperscaler client or the specific financial value of the contract. Prakash Govindan, CEO of Gradiant, framed the deal as a response to a structural problem facing the data center industry.
"Water-scarce regions are where the next wave of hyperscale growth is happening, and most operators don't have a way to get there," he said.
"We're giving them one. This project shows hyperscalers can build in these markets without water becoming the reason they can't."
HyperSolved Platform at the Core
The contract is being delivered through HyperSolved, Gradiant's integrated cooling water platform developed specifically for AI data centers.
The platform combines treatment technologies with the company's proprietary CURE Chemicals and its SmartOps system.
Gradiant describes HyperSolved as designed to address the full water cycle at data center facilities, from intake and treatment through to wastewater handling and discharge management.
The West Texas project represents the latest addition to what Gradiant describes as a growing data center portfolio built around HyperSolved.
The company stated that the new contract is part of a string of data center wins it has secured with leading hyperscalers in 2026, though it has not provided specifics on the number or locations of those other projects.
Nish Vora, Managing Director for the Americas at Gradiant, said the project demands both technical precision and tight project execution.
"This project puts Gradiant's data center track record to work in one of the tightest schedules and toughest water constraints we've seen, backed by the presence we've already built in Texas," he said.
"We're delivering the site's full water and wastewater system engineered for zero discharge to surface water, on a construction schedule that leaves no room for delay."
Zero Discharge as a Scalable Model
The zero-surface-discharge design at the West Texas campus carries implications that Gradiant says extend beyond a single project.
The company described the approach as a template for how hyperscale campuses can expand in water-scarce regions without increasing pressure on local water supplies.
Gradiant said this model is increasingly central to its strategy for scaling water infrastructure across the data center sector.
The design means that no treated or process water from the facility will be released to local surface water systems, a requirement that demands a higher level of engineering complexity than conventional industrial water treatment.
It also means the facility will not draw on surface water discharge as a relief mechanism, requiring that all water consumed or generated on site be fully managed within the system Gradiant is building.

Gradiant was founded at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is headquartered in Boston.
The company describes itself as the water layer of the AI economy, a positioning that reflects its focus on providing water and wastewater infrastructure for the industries and facilities driving AI development, including semiconductors, data centers, and the energy sector.
The company states it has built more than 3,000 treatment plants across 92 countries. The West Texas contract adds to Gradiant's publicly reported activity in the data center market, where water management has grown in prominence as a constraint on site selection and development timelines.
Liquid cooling technologies used in high-density AI compute environments consume significant volumes of water, and in arid regions, securing a reliable water supply and a viable wastewater disposal pathway has become as consequential a planning challenge as power availability or land access.
