Bitdeer Pays $100 Million Cash for 200 Acres in Milam County, Texas to Anchor Data Center Expansion
Bitdeer Technologies Group has completed the acquisition of approximately 200 acres of greenfield land in Milam County, Texas, paying roughly USD 100 million in cash to secure outright ownership of property adjacent to its existing Rockdale facility.
The Singapore-headquartered company, listed on Nasdaq under the ticker BTDR, said the purchase is intended to support the development of artificial intelligence and high-performance computing infrastructure alongside its current Bitcoin mining operations.
A Fee Simple Purchase Designed for Long-Term Control
The transaction was structured as a fee simple acquisition, meaning Bitdeer holds full ownership of the parcel rather than operating under a lease arrangement.
The company said outright ownership removes what it described as one of the principal constraints on AI and HPC data center development at the location, specifically the renewal risk and operational uncertainty associated with leasing land.
Michael G. Potter, Chief Financial Officer of Bitdeer, said in a statement that securing direct ownership gives the company greater long-term certainty over its development plans.
"Owning this land gives us greater long-term certainty over our development plans, eliminates the renewal risk associated with a lease, and provides flexibility to maintain our existing Bitcoin mining operations while we develop the newly acquired property," Potter said.
He described Rockdale as one of the best-connected locations in the company's portfolio and said the site is well positioned to receive additional power allocations in the years ahead.
Scale of the Existing Rockdale Infrastructure
The Rockdale facility in Milam County already represents a substantial piece of Bitdeer's operational footprint.
Prior to the new acquisition, the site featured approximately 563 megawatts of interconnected grid capacity. With the new parcel incorporated and existing expansion plans progressing, the Milam County sites are expected to scale to 742 megawatts of interconnected capacity.
The sites also include a dedicated water supply, a resource that is increasingly critical for large-scale data center cooling requirements.
Following the completion of the transaction, Bitdeer owns and operates approximately 255 acres in Milam County combined with the pipeline power capacity reaching 742 megawatts.
Across its full global portfolio, which includes facilities in the United States, Norway, Bhutan, Canada, Malaysia, and Ethiopia, the company now claims approximately 3.0 gigawatts of total power capacity.
Location as a Strategic Advantage
The newly acquired land sits within 70 miles of Austin, Texas, placing it in close proximity to one of the country's fastest-growing technology corridors.
Bitdeer characterized the location as a sizable and strategically situated infrastructure asset, pointing in particular to the existing large-load interconnection and the established transmission and substation infrastructure already serving the Rockdale site.
The company said it believes that infrastructure foundation positions the Rockdale location favorably to receive further power allocations over the coming years.
Access to transmission capacity and grid interconnection points has become one of the defining bottlenecks in the race to build out AI and HPC data centers in the United States, making sites with existing large-load connections increasingly valuable.
Dual-Use Strategy: Bitcoin Mining and AI Infrastructure
Bitdeer has been explicit about its intention to pursue both Bitcoin mining and AI computational infrastructure from its existing and newly acquired sites.
The company's announcement emphasized that the land acquisition gives it flexibility to maintain current Bitcoin mining operations at Rockdale while separately developing the newly acquired greenfield parcel for AI and HPC purposes.
The company describes itself as a world-leading technology company for Bitcoin mining infrastructure and AI computing, offering services that include equipment procurement, transport logistics, data center design and construction, equipment management, and daily operations.
It also offers cloud computing services for customers with high demand for artificial intelligence workloads.
Financial Outlay and Capital Discipline
The USD 100 million all-cash price tag represents a significant capital commitment for the company. Potter framed the acquisition as part of what he called a disciplined approach to expanding powered land under the company's direct control.
He said the Milam County purchase is a continuation of progress the company has been making across its platform to put Bitdeer in direct control of the sites most critical to its growth.
The deal brings the total Milam County landholding to approximately 255 acres when combined with Bitdeer's prior presence at the Rockdale site.
The company said the acquisition also strengthens its ability to plan and finance future AI and HPC infrastructure development by providing the long-term site control that lenders and project finance structures typically require.
Global Footprint Context
The Texas acquisition adds to a data center portfolio that Bitdeer has been building across multiple continents.
The company currently operates deployed data centers in the United States, Norway, Bhutan, and Ethiopia, and its overall site portfolio spans additional countries including Canada and Malaysia.
The combined global power capacity of approximately 3.0 gigawatts positions Bitdeer among the larger operators in the Bitcoin mining and AI infrastructure space, though the Milam County site with its existing transmission assets stands out as one of the company's most strategically significant individual locations based on the details provided in the announcement.
