Flex Unveils Axiom AI Modules Promising Faster AI Data Center Rollouts
Flex, the San Jose, California-headquartered technology company trading on NASDAQ under FLEX, announced a broadened line of prefabricated modular data center solutions aimed at speeding the build-out of next-generation AI factories.
Integrated Power, Compute and Cooling in Factory-Built Form
The products, branded Axiom AI Modules, combine power delivery, high-density compute, and advanced liquid cooling in pre-engineered systems that are assembled before reaching the customer site.
Flex states that customers using the integrated modules can cut deployment timelines by up to 50% relative to conventional construction methods. The offering sits within Flex's Cloud and Power Infrastructure (CPI) segment, which is itself headed for a structural transformation.
Flex intends to spin the segment off as Axiom Solutions International, Inc., an independent publicly traded company, in the first quarter of calendar 2027.
Why Flex Says a Redesign Is Needed
Flex positions the modules as an answer to the mounting complexity confronting data center operators as AI infrastructure grows in both scale and power density. According to the company, operators increasingly struggle across power delivery, cooling, compute integration and deployment, and meeting those challenges demands a more integrated approach to how critical infrastructure is designed and deployed.
"Meeting the demands of AI infrastructure at scale requires more than incremental improvements.
It requires rethinking how power, compute and cooling work together as a system," said Chris Butler, expected Chief Technology and Strategy Officer at Axiom.
"Our system-level approach brings these critical technologies together with advanced manufacturing to simplify integration, accelerate deployment and deliver AI factories at scale."
Inside the Three-Part Module Architecture
The Axiom AI Modules bring together three components of AI infrastructure in pre-engineered, factory-built systems. The first is an 800 VDC Power Rack, which provides high-efficiency power conversion and distribution for next-generation 800 VDC AI infrastructure and high-density compute.
The second comprises advanced cooling distribution units, or CDUs, that supply liquid cooling to handle the rising heat produced by power-intensive AI workloads.
The third is a set of high-density IT racks that integrate AI servers, networking and high-speed interconnects to support next-generation AI compute at scale. The operational payoff, in Flex's telling, comes from relocating complicated integration work away from the data center site and into a controlled factory setting.
The modules are assembled, integrated, and tested in parallel with site development, an approach the company says lowers on-site complexity and helps customers bring AI capacity online sooner.
Production Footprint Supporting the Launch
Flex reports that it is already producing prefabricated modular solutions for hyperscalers across its worldwide operations, including more than three million square feet of manufacturing capacity in the United States dedicated to data center infrastructure.
The company points to its expertise spanning power, compute, cooling and systems integration as the foundation for its claim that it can support rapid AI infrastructure deployment across regions.
The expanded portfolio also shores up the CPI business ahead of its planned split.
Flex used the announcement to restate its intention to separate the segment into Axiom, an independent publicly traded company, in the first quarter of calendar 2027.
