Enerflex Lands Over 1 GW Data Center Power Order, Lifting BTM Backlog Past 1.75 GW
Enerflex Ltd. disclosed on October 13, 2026 that it will supply more than one gigawatt of low-emission behind-the-meter natural gas-fired power generation units for a large-scale North American data center development.
Under the Engineered Systems contract, the Calgary-based company will handle design, engineering, fabrication, and assembly of the units, which will serve a development tied to artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure demand.
The order, announced from the company's Alberta headquarters, now forms the largest single component of Enerflex's behind-the-meter power generation backlog. When combined with roughly 450 megawatts of additional awards announced on October 1, 2026, the company's backlog in this product line stands above 1.75 gigawatts, with equipment deliveries scheduled through 2028.
Manufacturing Footprint and Capacity Spending
The newly awarded work, together with the existing backlog, will be carried out through Enerflex's North American manufacturing operations. The company said that the volume of orders and anticipated growth in its core markets is prompting it to broaden the capabilities of its Engineered Systems business line.
Enerflex has already committed approximately USD 100 million toward investments in Engineered Systems facilities and capabilities, with USD 15 million of that amount embedded in the company's 2026 capital expenditure guidance.
According to the company, this spending, alongside initiatives to strengthen collaboration, scale, operational efficiency, and capabilities, is expected to materially raise the revenue capacity of the Engineered Systems business.
Chief Executive Points to Off-Grid Power Demand
President and Chief Executive Officer Paul Mahoney framed the award around demand for generation that operates independently of the grid.
"The demand for reliable, prime power that does not require grid connection, supporting artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure development, continues to grow," Mahoney said in the release.
He cited the size of the order book as proof of the company's positioning. "Our success securing over 1.75 gigawatts of backlog highlights Enerflex's unique capabilities in providing an integrated design, engineering, full-scale fabrication, and project execution solutions for behind-the-meter power generation projects," Mahoney said. He credited the company's client partners for their trust in executing the projects and said Enerflex expects to continue converting its opportunity pipeline into "meaningful greenfield expansion and after-market, digital, and maintenance services."
After-Market Work Tied to the Growing Installed Base
The contract scope covers equipment supply, but Enerflex identified longer-term revenue attached to the same backlog.
As units are delivered, the company expects opportunities for commissioning, installation, and after-market services support, including digital solutions delivered through its ReliaCore Asset Performance Management ecosystem.
The company described these follow-on opportunities as consistent with its commercial strategy of supporting the full lifecycle of behind-the-meter power generation projects. The ReliaCore ecosystem was presented in the release as the digital component of the after-market services offering.
