Google-Linked Housebound Group Files $800 Million Pair of Data Centers in Haskell, Texas
A Google-affiliated entity has submitted filings with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation for two separate data center projects in Haskell, Texas, bringing the combined investment at the site to $800 million and adding to a growing cluster of hyperscale development in the region.
Two Projects, One Address
Housebound Group LLC, an affiliate linked to Google, has filed for both projects at 1362 Red Creek Road in Haskell, with each carrying a USD 400 million price tag.
The two facilities, designated Journey 1A and Journey 2A, differ in size and construction timelines but share the same address within what documents indicate is a 300-acre development site.
Journey 1A is the larger of the two, spanning 285,280 square feet, or approximately 26,505 square meters. Construction on that facility began on April 1, 2026, with an expected completion date in late August 2027.
Journey 2A is somewhat smaller at 210,420 square feet, or 19,550 square meters, and broke ground more recently on June 23, 2026, with a targeted completion date in late October of the same year.
Regulatory Filings and the Google Connection
The Google link to the Haskell County projects emerges through publicly available tax abatement documents on the Haskell County website, which connect a related entity, Homebound Group LLC, to the technology company.
The spelling difference between Homebound Group and Housebound Group appears across different filings, with the former name appearing in a February 2026 application to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for permits at the same site. The tax abatement agreement covering the Journey site was approved in June 2025.
A Broader Campus Picture in Haskell County
The Journey projects are not the only Google-linked development activity in Haskell County.
Research from data center tracking firm Aterio places the Journey campus in the northern part of the county, while a separate campus, referred to as Thelma, is located in the south and has advanced further in its development.
Regulatory filings related to Thelma indicate that five buildings are planned for that site. The first building spans 280,000 square feet, and a second building has been filed for at 350,000 square feet.
Aterio estimates the total power capacity for the Thelma campus at around 440 megawatts. A third campus in Haskell County connected to Google also received a tax abatement from the county in April 2026.
That project is being developed by Ascendant Site Solutions LLC.
Part of a Stated USD 40 Billion Texas Commitment
The Haskell County activity fits within a broader investment commitment Google announced in November 2025, when the company stated it would invest USD 40 billion in Texas.
At the time, Google indicated it planned to expand existing data center campuses in Ellis County and had identified three new campuses in Armstrong and Haskell Counties. The filings now emerging in Haskell County represent visible progress toward those announced plans.
Regional Context
Haskell County sits in northwest Texas, roughly 50 miles north of Abilene. The Abilene area has itself become a notable location for large-scale data center development.
Crusoe is currently developing a campus in Abilene for Microsoft, and the company has also completed what has been described as the flagship data center campus for Oracle and OpenAI in the same city.
The concentration of hyperscale investment in this part of Texas reflects broader national trends of data center operators seeking available land, power infrastructure, and favorable regulatory environments outside traditional coastal markets.
The tax abatement agreements secured by Google-linked entities in Haskell County indicate local government cooperation in attracting that investment.
Scale of Development
When accounting for the Journey and Thelma campuses together, the scale of Google-connected development in Haskell County is substantial.
Journey 1A and Journey 2A alone represent 495,700 square feet of data center space and USD 800 million in capital investment at a single address.
The Thelma campus, with its five planned buildings and estimated 440 megawatts of power capacity, adds considerably to that total.
The third campus under development by Ascendant Site Solutions extends the footprint further still. Construction timelines across the two Journey buildings overlap significantly, with both facilities now under simultaneous active development at the Red Creek Road site.
Journey 1A, having started construction in April, is roughly three months further along than Journey 2A, which commenced in late June 2026.
Both are expected to reach completion before the end of 2027, with Journey 2A targeting the earlier finish date if its late October 2026 completion target holds.
