Crusoe, the Denver-based AI factory company, has announced it has contracted 4.9 gigawatts of AI infrastructure capacity across its data center projects and Crusoe Cloud platform, while its total development pipeline now exceeds 40 gigawatts, a scale that positions the company as a significant player in the race to build out compute capacity for the world's largest technology firms.

A Contracted Portfolio Built Around Hyperscalers

The contracted 4.9 gigawatts spans five AI data center campuses across the United States, each tied to hyperscale clients whose appetite for compute infrastructure has accelerated dramatically in recent years.

Crusoe's flagship campus, a 1.2 gigawatt facility in Abilene, Texas, was purpose-built for Oracle. The first two buildings at that campus are currently operational, and an additional six buildings are under active construction.

Earlier this year, Crusoe broke ground on a second campus in Abilene, this one a 900-megawatt facility being developed for Microsoft.

Beyond those two Texas projects, the company is also contracted to build two additional large-scale campuses in Texas and a fifth in Missouri.

Each of those projects is described as being in various stages of site work and construction. Chase Lochmiller, co-founder and CEO of Crusoe, said the pace of demand from major technology companies has reached levels not previously seen.

Vertical Integration as a Competitive Differentiator

Crusoe attributes much of its appeal to hyperscale customers to a vertically integrated model that sets it apart from conventional data center developers.

Where most developers treat power procurement and construction as sequential processes, Crusoe says it co-develops them simultaneously from the outset.

The company also manufactures long-lead electrical components at its own facilities in Colorado, Oklahoma, and Louisiana, shipping prefabricated equipment that is ready for installation upon arrival at a given site.

The company says this approach compresses timelines, reduces project risk, and delivers campuses that meet the exacting standards of its most demanding clients.

That integration extends into Crusoe Cloud, the company's AI platform designed for training, inference, and high-performance computing workloads.

Because Crusoe designs, builds, and operates its own infrastructure end to end, the company says customers benefit from timing, performance, and economic advantages that would not be achievable through third-party providers.

The cloud platform is positioned to serve a range of customers beyond hyperscalers, from AI-native startups to large enterprises that want to access high-performance computing without taking on the complexity of managing infrastructure themselves.

A 40 Gigawatt Pipeline Aimed at a Vast Market

While the contracted 4.9 gigawatts represents the capacity Crusoe has already committed to deliver, the company's broader development pipeline tells a larger story.

That pipeline, inclusive of contracted projects, sites under active tenant negotiation, and sites in advanced development, now exceeds 40 gigawatts in total.

To put that figure in context, Crusoe cited projections from McKinsey and Company indicating that AI-related data center capacity globally will need to reach 156 gigawatts by 2030.

The company is positioning its pipeline as a direct response to that anticipated shortfall, building toward locations and scales that were previously considered difficult or impractical to develop.

Crusoe's power strategy is designed to accommodate the geographic and logistical complexity of that ambition.

The company draws on a range of energy sources including natural gas, renewables, batteries, and grid interconnection, as well as partnerships with leading energy infrastructure companies.

That flexibility is intended to allow Crusoe to develop campuses in locations where conventional power strategies would face obstacles.

Earlier in June, Crusoe also announced a partnership with Bergen Engines involving a power agreement of approximately 750 megawatts for AI data centers in the United States, a deal that adds to the company's energy supply strategy as it works to deliver on its contracted commitments and expand its pipeline further.

The Broader Significance of the Milestone

The announcement comes as competition among AI infrastructure providers intensifies, with hyperscalers committing hundreds of billions of dollars to data center buildouts globally.

For a company like Crusoe, securing long-term contracts with customers of the scale of Oracle and Microsoft represents a substantial validation of its model and its ability to execute at the pace those customers require.
