Hyperscale Data Taps Bitcoin Treasury to Fund Michigan AI Data Center
Hyperscale Data, Inc. has announced a significant shift in how it plans to finance the construction of its Michigan AI data center campus, moving away from traditional equity financing in favor of deploying a portion of its Bitcoin holdings and establishing a Bitcoin-backed credit facility.
The Las Vegas-based company, which trades on NYSE American under the ticker GPUS, made the announcement on July 30, 2026.
A Strategic Pivot for Capital Allocation
The company describes the move as a repurposing of its Bitcoin treasury strategy rather than an abandonment of its conviction in the cryptocurrency.
Management concluded that the Michigan Campus represents one of the company's highest-priority long-term capital investment opportunities, and determined that redeploying a portion of cash underlying its Bitcoin treasury into that project has the potential to create greater long-term stockholder value.
To initiate the strategy, Hyperscale Data has already monetized approximately 100 Bitcoin, with the proceeds invested directly into the development of the Michigan Campus.
The company has also begun using those funds to acquire critical infrastructure and long-lead equipment necessary to support a previously announced master services agreement with a leading neo-cloud AI infrastructure provider. Executive Chairman Milton "Todd" Ault III framed the Bitcoin treasury as an active financial instrument rather than a passive holding. "We believe our Bitcoin treasury is one of the Company's most valuable strategic assets," Ault said.
"Through our Bitcoin mining operations and disciplined treasury management, Hyperscale Data recently announced that it had accumulated approximately USD 71 million in Bitcoin, creating a significant source of financial flexibility."
Bitcoin-Backed Borrowing at Variable Rates
Alongside the direct monetization of Bitcoin, Hyperscale Data has established a credit facility that allows it to borrow capital by pledging Bitcoin as collateral.
The company expects the variable interest rates on that facility to range from approximately 4.5% to 5.0%.
Management characterized this as an attractive means of sourcing low-cost capital while preserving ownership of a substantial portion of the company's Bitcoin treasury.
The company outlined several benefits it believes the combined capital strategy provides. These include accelerating development of the Michigan Campus, providing access to what it describes as low-cost, non-equity capital, reducing stockholder dilution by lowering reliance on third-party short-term equity financing or what it termed onerous debt financing, and converting digital assets into long-lived AI infrastructure expected to generate recurring cash flows.
Chief Executive Officer William Horne emphasized that the decision reflects a belief that Bitcoin-backed financing is currently more advantageous than issuing new equity.
"Given what we believe are the Company's current market valuations, we believe selectively deploying Bitcoin and utilizing Bitcoin-backed financing represent more attractive sources of capital than relying primarily on issuing additional equity," Horne said.
Long-Term MSA Anchors the Michigan Campus
The urgency behind the capital deployment is tied directly to a master services agreement Hyperscale Data had previously announced with a neo-cloud AI infrastructure provider.
The MSA carries an initial term of 10 years with two five-year extension options that may be exercised by the customer, creating what the company refers to as the Maximum Term.
Under the initial terms, the agreement contemplates approximately 20 megawatts of critical AI compute capacity.
If the contract runs for the full Maximum Term, the MSA is expected to generate in excess of USD 1.2 billion in revenue for Hyperscale Data.
The agreement also includes an option that could significantly expand the scope of the relationship. The customer holds a right to an additional 32 megawatts of critical AI compute capacity.
If that option is exercised within the first two years of the initial term and continues through both five-year extension options, the total contract revenue would be expected to exceed USD 3.0 billion, according to the company.
Preserving Bitcoin Exposure While Building Infrastructure
Hyperscale Data was careful to characterize the strategy as selective rather than wholesale, stressing that it intends to maintain meaningful Bitcoin ownership going forward.
Horne described the move as shifting one balance sheet asset for another.
"By selectively monetizing and financing against a portion of our Bitcoin holdings, we are shifting one balance sheet asset for another," he said.
"We believe that increasing our cash available to develop our AI infrastructure will generate significant long-term recurring cash flow, though we intend to maintain meaningful Bitcoin ownership."
Ault echoed that framing, arguing that the strategy demonstrates the utility of maintaining a substantial Bitcoin treasury.
"A Bitcoin treasury is more than a passive balance sheet asset; it is a source of financial flexibility that allows us to efficiently allocate capital into opportunities we believe can create greater long-term stockholder value," he said.
Horne also noted that the company will continue evaluating all available financing alternatives as market conditions evolve and capital requirements change, leaving the door open for adjustments to the strategy.
The company did not provide a specific timeline for completing construction of the Michigan Campus or for when it expects revenues under the MSA to begin flowing.
